Seminar-3: Atomistic Simulations and Experimental Techniques for Thermal Property Analysis
This seminar will first focus on atomistic simulation technique molecular dynamics (MD) for investigation of thermal properties of nano-materials and their interaction with different substrates. The various MD simulation techniques will be introduced to compute thermal boundary conductance (TBC) and thermal conductivity of nano-structures. The MD technique to compute scattering rates of phonon modes and contribution of different phonon modes to material thermal conductivity will be introduced. An experimental method, time domain thermal reflectance (TDTR), for estimation of thermal property will be introduced. Some basic working principles of TDTR to estimate TBC and thermal conductivity will be discussed. Finally, thermal reflectance principle based imaging technique and related equipment will be discussed to obtain ultra-fast transient temperature contour of electronic devices.
